Celebrated

Dear Baby Allegra:

You were born 3 weeks ago today. You have affected more people in days than most people do in years. Somehow, your imperfections inspire.  No Olympic medal, Ivy League diploma or Nobel Prize could make me prouder of you.

Love,
Your Mom

  1. Rightfully proud Ali! And you and Mitch should be SO proud of how you are shepherding the other kids through this difficult time, too. You are setting such a good example for how to weather the inevitable difficulties and reversals they will face in their own lives. You are showing them how to do that with faith and grace. And also, I should add, you are showing all of us, your friends by your example. You are brilliant. Much love to all of you.

  3. I once attended a "Know Your Religion" where the speaker made the claim that every human being on the earth has a "perfect" body. After some discussion back and forth about this claim he said (paraphrased) "We all have a perfect body for the mission we are to accomplish on the earth. Maybe our body is perfect for teaching us compassion, patience, gratitude or a multitude of other important traits. Maybe our mission is to teach others those traits. The body God gives us is "perfect" to accomplish whatever one's particular mission is in life." While your family loves and cherishes this time with your beautiful baby, Allegra, she is teaching all of you (and all of us who get to share in glimpses of her journey) some pretty amazing life lessons. She is fulfilling her mission here on earth in her own perfect way. I love her from afar and look forward to all of your updates. I am always uplifted by your sharing.

  5. I love the comments of the others today. I agree. I think we are all given the body we need to have so that we can fulfill our mission and help others fulfill theirs. I think it is a testiment to the fact that the size of our spirits are not confined to the size of our bodies.
Love you guys. Extra birthday hugs to Mitch! Can't wait to see you.

  6. All day long I will tell my body I love you and not once will I say you are fat or old. I will not scold my hips for being wide or my knees for hurting. I will go through this day saying thank you body, you are perfect. Like Allegra.
